Nothing specific, but honestly, I only know what I need to know about it for maintenance. It's designed to run on magic, not fully mechanical-- figured you might need to look at it first.
[it's possible it'll just be hard to mess with, but he thought it would be worth finding out.]
he got so excited. ok. rein it in a little, lu bixing. ]
Sorry. Oh, man, the things I could make if I had my normal tools - well, we'll be working with what we have here, so I'm a little limited, but I can do that. We can work on it in the science lab, if you want to step into my proverbial office? I can work on these [ the cookies ] later.
Are you much of a baker? Two sets of hands make half the work.
[ he does in fact want to go work on that project like, right now, but he will again try and rein it in. lu bixing works best like this - the busier he is, the less he thinks about being upset. ]
Great. Then, if you'd mix the wet ingredients for me, I'd really appreciate it.
[ he passes over a bowl to rynlan and gestures to where he'd gathered the ingredients! it's a little messy over here because lu bixing is naturally a messy person, but, everything is correct. so there's that. ]
And, you're on strict duty to keep me from getting distracted by thinking about what I'm going to do with your leg and accidentally ruining these cookies, got it?
[but he just sounds amused, moving over to start working on the ingredients. the mess doesn't bother him-- once he's found where everything is he just gets to work adding things to the bowl, they can clean up later.]
My title's done a lot of growing, this week, huh? Prime Minister Pirate Captain Chef Engineer Lu Bixing.
[ he's joking too, obviously, as he adds the last carefully measured cup of baking powder into his bowl and starts to combine the ingredients with a wooden spoon. ]
And - to be honest, not very long. I used to cook more often, a long time ago, but I...[ a pause, just slight, enough that his hands pause, before he continues ]... got out of the habit. I need to get back to it now.
More and more impressive. No one's going to be able to say it after another week.
[he hums under his breath as he finishes off the wet ingredients with the eggs, working on combining them as well-- and while he notes that pause, he doesn't press it. not now.]
Can't say it's been much of a habit for me, either-- at least not for others. Usually I've been cooking for myself.
Well, I'm not calling you that, so you're going to have to settle for Lu Bixing.
[mixing away in the background...]
You could always move on to that after baking, if you want to. I know we don't have to here, with the food available, but-- I don't know, maybe it would help.
'Lu' is my family name - the same as my dad's. [ in a very teacherly tone. he summons up his personal device from his watch, and it shows a screen, letting him taptap away a few characters. ] And Bixing is my given name.
[ the screen shows: 陆 必行, which translates on the screen to LU BIXING. ]
'Lin' is Lin Jingheng's family name. And ... [ a beat, like he's gotten the tiniest little thrill out of saying it, as the characters shift to 林 静恒, then translates to LIN JINGHENG. ] Jingheng is his given name. I've never heard anyone call him that. Not even me! Most people just call him Commander.
Mmm. I think you can still call him that, if you want. It surprised me, the first time I heard it - usually it's just me! I like the way his name sounds, and I was a little too cheeky when I first learned it - it was too late to call him Commander for me, too.
[ lu bixing sounds very fond as he says that, even a little nostalgic. he will let him see! characters...fancy schmancy. ] I get Lu sometimes, too, but, it's usually with a title. Headmaster, or Prime Minister. It'd be like calling you Dawnslight, is all. It's not strange, but it's a little less friendly.
[ he'd wink but he can't but there's the implication that he winked. he props his thumb and his index finger under his chin like he's posing for a minute like a goof, though, and then explains - ]
Well, that, and aging works very differently for us. My body would have to age really fast to be that aged by it - it would have been a full century before I started showing any actual signs of it, so. You're probably not wrong.

[it's possible it'll just be hard to mess with, but he thought it would be worth finding out.]

Wait, I can take it apart? Really?
no subject
[observation first, dismantling second. maybe third.]

[any kind of distraction is good, right now, he's just as happy to assist with cookies before they get to that.]

[you learn these things when you spend enough time at home. he glances over the recipe, briefly.]
Found everything you need?
no subject
Mmhm. Chocolate chip cookies - nothing too fancy. I thought everyone could use something sweet, after a day like this.
no subject
[boy could they all use it.]
Well, between us, I think we can make more than enough.

I'll allow it. How long have you baked for?

no subject
[ that's so much simpler, isn't it? his life is much easier that way. he smiles a little, softening down at the bowl of ingredients. ]
Well, you're better than me, in that regard. I couldn't tell you the last time I just cooked something for anyone, let alone myself.

[mixing away in the background...]
You could always move on to that after baking, if you want to. I know we don't have to here, with the food available, but-- I don't know, maybe it would help.

[ someone corrected him, finally. that's his first name! and they're friends.
as for the second bit, on cooking... he looks at him for a moment, a little surprised? before he returns back to the bowl. ]
...Maybe I should. Some habits are easy to restart, right?
no subject
...wait, is Lin not the right name?
[sorry he'll get back to cooking in a second.]

I see. So- Bixing for you, but still Lin for him? I don't think I can really switch over to calling him 'Commander' now...
no subject
[ lu bixing sounds very fond as he says that, even a little nostalgic. he will let him see! characters...fancy schmancy. ] I get Lu sometimes, too, but, it's usually with a title. More formal then? I'll remember it. Never cared much for being called Dawnslight, myself.
[but, you know, for that matter-]
Prime Minister? I don't think I've ever asked about what you do.
no subject
[ it's a callback, to the long line of titles from before - a little playfully, as he's going to combine the wet and dry ingredients.
and then, casually, like this is not actually a huge fucking deal: ]
But, I'm the political leader of the entire Eighth Galaxy. I have been for the past sixteen years, or so.
no subject
[holy shit? he pauses once again-- this gets his full attention.
after looking at him for a few seconds:]
How do you look so young, normally a job like that ages you twice as fast.
no subject
[ he'd wink but he can't but there's the implication that he winked. he props his thumb and his index finger under his chin like he's posing for a minute like a goof, though, and then explains - ]

[his ears flick. hello? what kind of human lifespan is this?]
By my world's standards you'd have-- two, maybe three decades left at your age.
