[ hello it's wednesday and lu bixing is in the lab with childe!
he's sitting on a stool, with a few different Science Tools and a few beakers of chemicals, legs folded and looking curiously over at
Weapons.
anyway he sighs a little wistfully as he's looking over Stuff with childe. his personal device is up beside him, projecting a set of screens like usual. ]
See, this is the kind of weapon enhancement that I'm good with. I'd really give anything for just slightly better technology... Give me the supplies and I could build a nuclear weapon, but instead, I've got gasoline and minor chemicals.
[HERE THEY ARE doing their thing... fortunately/unfortunately Childe is not Kaveh and while he's interested in the technology it's in that way where he's kind of curious about everything. For his part, he's brought the sword as promised, along with (checks notes from boat race week) a shield and a mace for good measure; he himself has his usual blades.]
I've never heard of a nuclear weapon. [Who needs nukes when you've got gods] But to answer your question... I suppose I'm mostly curious what you can do. For me, I've gotten used to relying on my Vision, so going back to having no elemental abilities has been an adjustment.
[But he doubts Lu Bixing could re-activate his Delusion, so he isn't going to bother bringing that up. He sighs, lifting one of his blades.]
Normally, I can use Hydro to make whatever I need. Not just these, but bows and arrows, shields, you get the idea. For example, if a battle's a little more challenging, I can blend the two of these together to make a double-bladed spear--that kind of thing. But I don't think it would be possible to create anything that malleable here, would it?
[He's not sacrificing his blades for Science because there's no guarantee he'd get another set, but it would be nice to have something with more versatility.]
[ lu bixing gets this look in his eyes when he's really seriously contemplating a problem. this is one of those times. he looks at the blade intently, at the shape of it, the handles. hmmm. ]
... Well, actually, it might be. Here. Hang on.
[ give him a second. he hops off of the stool and then digs around in his satchel, returning a few minutes later with his notebook and a pencil. he flips to a blank page and smooths it out, and then sets it down in front of childe. ]
Draw me a picture of what you mean. I don't know how much I could construct in terms of turning a sword into a bow and arrow or a shield, but a double bladed spear is definitely possible. Draw me a picture of that and I might be able to make something.
[ if only he had a 3d printer. but you know what? it's fine. lu bixing has done more with less. ] In terms of making something break down to its essence and reform entirely, now that is much trickier.
[He takes the pencil and the notebook! With a nod, he starts to draw; he's not the most amazing artist ever, but he does know weapons very well, so it's a decent sketch. He draws something like this! It's clear that the spearheads are very similar to the blades of his daggers, but he sketches a few examples of how he typically merges them together just for good measure. Something like this except obviously not in gif form.]
[ (gu yun voice) fuck you my purple polearm is cooler than yours
lu bixing lets him finish, though he does peer over his shoulder to look - in the meantime, he picks up one of the blades to test the weight of it, checking out the bases of each, and when he's done, he comes to peer over the drawing, and then makes a thoughtful noise. ]
Aha. Alright, I see what you're saying....I think what might be best is to open up the bottom of one of these. [ he turns the fancy blade over and taps the very bottom of it, between the spiky bits where the hand grip is. ] And if we could create a telescoping rod to go in there that's spring loaded and create a switch mechanism you could hit to release the pole from compact to it's full length...then, all we'd have to do is flip the other one over and create a receptacle for the telescoped pole to rest in, so you could snap them together. You'd have to accommodate for the ringed part around where your hands usually go, but... these are awfully sharp, so I have a feeling you could just utilize that, too....
I think that's the best I could do for you with the materials that we have without deconstructing the entire rig. I need to dig around a little bit and see if I can't find tools to build a telescoping pole, but, it's doable. It's not exactly magic, but, machinery can be pretty impressive!
Also, while Childe is smart, he is definitely not a science nerd; if this were anything besides weapons his eyes would be glazing over by now, but since this is immediately relevant to his interests, he does his best to follow along. Luckily, it's not too terribly complicated, especially since he knows what the end goal is supposed to be.]
Are there materials we can use to build a sample around here? [Just so that he can see how it works before they potentially break his blades.] This is probably a long shot, but I wonder if the demons might be willing to give us more supplies.
anyway it's bixing so clearly he's not stopped by that slight lament... instead he just sits back on the stool as he puts the weapon back down, thoughtful. ]
Maybe. I don't know how accurate it would be since I can't exactly replicate the heft and weight, but we might be able to find something on the new island - there's a lot of useful stuff there. You're more familiar with the weight and construction of it than I am, so if you can think of a good equivalent - maybe a toothpick to start, or a q-tip - then we can go from there.
[The way I misread this and thought LBX was telling him to make a replica with regular-sized toothpicks
But that is not what LBX is saying and Childe is not as dumb as me so he nods, his gaze distant and thoughtful.]
Alright. I'll see what I can find, and I'll see if I can't strike up some kind of deal with Bloody Mary. They're interested in weapon technology too. [Spoilers that's how they bonded.] There are those metal bars in the gym, as well. I'm not sure how sturdy they are, but we can probably experiment a little with some of those.

[ tragedy ] So - what do you want to try and do?
