If you travel close to the speed of light, you experience a phenomenon known as time dilation. Within a wormhole, the greater your motion through space, the less your motion through time. The people outside of the wormhole might see three months pass, while the people within might only feel five minutes. Since we were traveling through space-time anyway, it's not unimaginable that we might have been inside of a wormhole, while in that moment, Ryo was outside of it.
